Remember that episode of Friends when Joey’s fridge broke so he had to eat all the food to keep it from spoiling? Well, as much as it sounds fun for all Joey fans out there, you wouldn’t want something like this happening to you.

In this column we will give you some smart hacks on how to keep your fresh food from spoiling fast.

Keep your Mushrooms in a Paper Bag

You’ve probably seen that some markets use paper bags to store their mushrooms, and this is no coincidence.

The trick is that these bags keep mushrooms fresh much more efficiently than the usual plastic bags or styrofoam containers.

Moisture is bad for your shrooms, so storing them in a paper bag will keep them clean, dry and fresh much longer.

Just make sure you give them a proper rinse in the sink before using them, and you’re good to go.

Don’t Fridge your Avocados until they’re Ripe

If you want your avocados fresh, juicy and soft for as long as possible, make sure you keep them stored at room temperature until they are ripe.

Once these bad boys are ready to be eaten, you can put them in the fridge to prolong their life. Also, squeeze out some lemon juice on them once you cut them to preserve them even further.
