Remember that episode of Friends when Joey’s fridge broke so he had to eat all the food to keep it from spoiling?

Well, as much as it sounds fun for all Joey fans out there, you wouldn’t want something like this happening to you.

In this column we will give you some smart hacks on how to keep your fresh food from spoiling fast.

Paper Towels in the Salad Drawer

If you put a few sheets of paper towels in your leafy greens fridge drawer they will absorb the condensation that the veggies generate as they chill and that way the veggies will stay fresh longer. Excess moisture is not a friend of fresh veggies, keep that in mind.

Never Separate Bananas Before Eating Them

The trick to keeping bananas fresh and stop them going brown is keeping them together as long as possible. So make sure you don’t separate the bananas once you bring them home from the store. Instead, snap them off one at the time as you eat them, for this way they will stay fresh up to 5 days longer.

Put One Apple in your Potato Bag

An apple a day, keeps the doctor away. The same goes from potatoes. It turns out the best way to prevent your potatoes from sprouting is to keep an apple in the bag. Apples produce ethylene gas, which will keep your potatoes fresher and firmer much longer.
