We have decided to delve a little deeper into this issue and look for some of the most heart-healthy diets available around the globe, and it appears that the one of the healthiest comes from around the Mediterranean Sea, and it is called The Mediterranean Diet.
Nutritionist Lisa R. Young, PhD, insists that people who are at risk for heart disease should first try diet changes over heavy heart medications. Health does come in through your mouth, anyway.
Why You Should Be Going Mediterranean
This exotic diet is proven to be extremely healthy for your heart for it will do wonders to your cardiovascular system. This program will also keep you slim, reduce strain on your heart and arteries, keep your cholesterol down, while it will prevent the clogging of your arteries as well.
“The Mediterranean diet is good for your lipid profile,” says Young. “Your lipid profile is determined with a blood test and it can show your cardiovascular health by comparing your total cholesterol with the levels of HDL and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, another type of fat.”
The Mediterranean Diet mirrors in eating foods high in quality fats. Think olive oil, fatty fish, and nuts, while it forbids foods high in saturated fat, like red meat.
“The focus is on lean animal proteins, and heavy plant-based proteins like beans and legumes,” Young suggests.
