Foods we regularly eat can either be good or bad for us in many ways. Some things are fattening, while others can boost our immune system, and the list of these benefits and risks is virtually endless.

However, not many people know that certain foods can actually affect your mood. In the case you’re feeling under the weather, here are a couple of foods that will make you happy.

Those Nutty Greens

The link between foods and happiness is in the form of hormones, mainly tryptophan, dopamine, and serotonin.

For example, green vegetables such as spinach and collard greens are not only healthy for your body, but also contain large amounts of vitamin C and magnesium which directly trigger the production of tryptophan.

Next up are nuts and seeds. Chia, flax, and hemp seeds, as well as walnuts and cashews, are packed with omega-3 fatty acids. By consuming them, you get all the benefits of a Prozac without any of its risks.

The Sweet Happiness

Another great food for achieving happiness is raw cacao. If you ever tried high-grade dark chocolate which had a high percentage of cacao in it, you know how good this food makes you feel. This is because cacao contains phenylethylamine, which our brain naturally produces when we fall in love.

Finally, we have berries. Both acai berries and blueberries are rich in antioxidants, which are natural stress-relievers.

So, if you want to eat healthy and be happy about it, add the foods above to your diet for a natural sensation of feeling good.
